Students will learn how to do fast and easy needle turn projects using their sewing machine. We will then expand on this method and I will show you my super easy machine method for English Paper piecing. NO marking, no paper removal and no "Y" seams involved. We will cover how to make and piece a variety of different hexagon quilt all on your domestic sewing machine.

In Activating Space students will explore the concept of Notan and learn to create a rhythmic interplay between positive and negative space in modern quilt blocks and quilt designs. Students will do cut paper exercises to explore Notan concepts and then put that knowledge to work to design graphic, modern blocks. With their original blocks students will apply alternate and traditional grid concepts to create unique quilt designs. Students will complete at least one block and one quilt design in class. There will be no sewing on day one. Students will begin block/quilt construction on day two.
